Uptown Coffee Cafe already had a successful location in Victoria when the LSBDC, working closely with the Farmville Downtown Partnership, recruited the coffee shop to open a Farmville location.
LSBDC assisted with business planning and a Longwood intern, Alex White, assisted with the financial modeling. According to LSBDC Director Sheri McGuire, “We’re trying to align what downtown Farmville is doing with what Longwood is doing, and we support them in any way we can.”
Longwood alum Jennifer Mattox and her husband, Jason, opened the Farmville cafe in August and already have 15 employees. LSBDC staff and interns assisted in constructing a working spreadsheet model for operations considering meal price, square footage per diner, number of table turns, overhead, and other factors.
Jennifer says, “The center was a great asset & we have exceeded projections. The ease of the expansion loan was nice, especially when time is of essence. We were able to complete buildout and open within 75 days. “
